Review:

So this movie released about 5 days ago and I just got around to watching it. Over the last five days I have read nothing but positive comments about how great the movie was and how it was the best of the season. Needless to say my hopes were high on this one. Not to mention that I'm a huge Nikki DeLoach fan.

Verdict? Meh. Not sure what the hype was about. Definitely not my favourite of the season. I found it extremely slow, the chemistry between DeLoach and Haydn-Jones was lukewarm at best, and for me the movie was just ok. I do feel that I need to watch this one again to see if I really missed something. Perhaps I was tired or not in the right mood? Not sure really.

Don't get me wrong. DeLoach was fantastic in this movie. She is a Hallmark staple and never disappoints. She is seriously one of the best female leads that Hallmark has in their actress pool. She is solid in this role. For those that don't know, DeLoach's father died about 6 weeks before filming this movie so watching her tackle the death of her grandfather in this was heartbreaking for me. I couldn't help but wonder how she could muster up any desire to do this after such a loss. The content would be so raw for her so that made this performance spectacular even more.

So the plot was ok. I have to tell you though...spoiler right here...I knew the first time the man came in holding the help wanted sign that it was a younger version of her grandfather. So that means within the first 15 minutes I knew the end would reveal to her that the person in the shop working beside her and guiding her was...her grandfather. How did I know??? Because this is almost the same plot as another movie called "Angels & Ornaments" where the big reveal is...you guessed it...the guy who came to help in the music shop was her grandfather. So I think knowing that I saw a similar movie before and knowing for more than three quarters of the movie where this was going made it boring and not as stellar as others believed this movie was.

I didn't really feel any real spark between Clara (DeLoach) and Logan (Haydn-Jones) unfortunately. I almost didn't feel like Haydn-Jones was needed in this movie. There was enough story line with the mystery of who the grandfather's long lost love was, that there didn't need to be a romance for her. I thought it took away from the better storyline of the Grandfather's love for Martha. I did like how they found Martha in the end and through her photos she was able to realize that it was her Grandfather who was the hired help. OK that was obvious to however I really couldn't get over the fact that she wouldn't have know what her grandpa looked like when he was young. Did she not have photos of him back then? Found that odd.

Should you watch it? Sure but it's not one that I would watch again.

Did you watch this movie? Tell me your thoughts in the comments.
