Review: So let's chat about Gingerbread Miracle. It was better than I thought actually. It wasn't crazy amazing but it was still good. So yes the plot was the typical "let's save a family store," but it was actually more than that. I actually really liked the story behind the family bakery and the tradition handed down of making Gingerbread wishing cookies. It was unique. I like the individualized cookies made with some obvious thought of who they were being made for. It was interesting. I didn't see the red briefcase cookie surfacing the way it did. Yes I knew that Maya (Patterson) and Alex (Ecker) would end up together but I liked how it played out.
Merritt Patterson was just as I expected. I don't think I have ever seen her in a bad role. Her performance was solid and she was very likable. Jon Ecker was ok and he began to improve on me throughout the movie. The chemistry between Ecker and Patterson was good. They had a fun vibe and were very comfortable with each other. It was believable. And seriously...the guy can bake and make food. He's a keeper. And the scene when she asked him if he ever made a wish on his cookie...sigh. Loved that and really felt for them when they said they had different lives and it wouldn't work.
Oh...can we talk about Alex's (Ecker) reaction to Jake (Patch May)? Classic. I thought he had some great moments that really showed how jealous he was with Jake pursuing Maya. His sideways glances, muttering under his breath...loved it.
A great movie that I thought was fun to watch. The plot was ok, the chemistry was good and the traditions of the bakery were great. I also liked how I was thrown a bit by the red briefcase but more importantly about the letter she wrote years back confessing her love and leaving it in his pocket. I was sure that he hadn't found it and had no clue all these years and that is why he never called her. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out my suspicions were off. I really liked how that was handled.
Solid movie.
