Not sure if I was extra tired or not but this one was so slow and I fell asleep. I had a hard time getting into the story and just plain didn't like it. The plot is the same old plot of a developer (Bruce Dawson) going to take away old sentimental stores and a heroine (Power) trying to save her store from the big bad developer. Plot twist...the Developer is the father of her love interest Andy (Donovan). She actually doesn't save her store but gets a different one and still gets the guy. That's different but not different enough.
I'm not the biggest fan of Trevor Donovan but that's not to say that some of his movies haven't been good. This one was a snooze. I felt like he was stiff and had zero chemistry with Sarah Power. The kiss on the beach felt forced as did their relationship. He did have some nice moments with his daughter Wink but that's about all.
It was weird seeing Bruce Dawson in a "bad guy" role. He's usually someone's really nice dad and not a miserable business man. I had a hard time getting over the fact that he was bad. I like this man and seeing him being a miserable old man...I didn't like it.
The resolution....I know that they are usually rushed but boy this wrapped up a bunch of loose end in about 4 minutes. Way too fast. She was mad, the son challenges his dad's reasoning, she sits on some rocks and apologizes to her dead mom and asks for help from her. Next scene, the grumpy old developer (Bruce Dawson) isn't grumpy any more and has a change of heart. He's a nice guy now. He even moves on from the past and finds love again with his housekeeper. He makes up with his son (Donovan), retires, hands the reins over to his son and then goes and has a sappy conversation with the girl (Power) that was mad at him. She goes on a seashell hunt and sees her man on a bridge. He takes her to the beach blindfolded and is met by too many people. She announces that she is getting a different shop and now all of a sudden doesn't mind losing her mom's shop. They kiss and then everyone has Christmas dinner. Seriously? You spent the whole movie complaining about how it meant so much to you and you just move because your scarf blows off, shows you a new property for lease and decide to open your shop somewhere else?
