When Calls The Heart - Season 6 - My Thoughts - Henry Gowen

Henry Gowen is a character that is growing on me and fast. The resident bad boy, admittedly I wasn't a fan of his originally but the last 2 seasons have shown a different side to Henry.

We don't really know alot about Henry and that's what I find intriguing. His past really isn't talked about and he is known for being a man who does whatever it takes to make money. If he hurts people in the process, that's of no concern to him. But over the last 2 seasons I've seen a change in him. He's softening a bit and I think it's large in part to the relationship he had with Abigail. She was the only one that seemed to see him differently. Supported and befriended him when others wouldn't. As a result he changed. I like this softer side to Henry and I liked the idea of what could have been a potential romance between him and Abigail. I am so disappointed that he cannot explore that any further now that her character has been written off. His subtle glances and the little things he says to her just enhances how deep I think he feels for her. Even going so far and trying to protect her when she lost money in the stock market and he gave his own money and told her he doubled it for her, I just love that.

Henry's stock in Hope Valley certain increased again when he took a chance, bought Jesse's land and eventually struck oil. When this happened I was happy for him. Glad that he had a chance to maybe redeem himself for some of the wrongs he did. Yes he had some side business deals and had to have some firm discussions with those who invested with him, but I thought that they were handled well. This is business and he's a business man. I hope that he is able to stay on the right side of the law for his sake and to help others see how he is integral to Hope Valley.

Before I end my thoughts on Gowen I wanted to comment on two things that happened in season 6 that really made my heart melt a little for him. The first was in the Christmas episode when the little girl who couldn't talk befriended him because she thought he looked like her recently deceased dad. Those moments with him reading to that little girl were just so heartwarming.

The second and most memorable moment came when Bill found an old letter from the management of the mining company. In it we see that Henry had written to the mining company expressing his concerns about safety. We see that the management team dismissed his concerns and closed the matter. His exchange with Bill about this letter had me in tears. You could see just how much this impacted Henry. His guilt of carrying this for years is evident. Feeling like he just didn't do enough and taking responsibility for losing so many people in the mining accident. I just cried and cried. Oh how this must have haunted him. He tried to do the right thing. The town needs to know this about him. They need to know that Gowen had tried to do something was stopped.

Question: What do you think about Henry Gowen? Do you think he's turning over a new leaf?
