When Calls The Heart - Season 6 - My Thoughts - Lucas Bouchard

The mysterious new owner of the saloon, Lucas Bouchard, has just arrived. He waltzes into town and doesn't say much about where he is from which leaves a mysterious cloud over his head.

The business man is arrogant yet confident. He seems to know the right thing to say to people and has also set his eyes on Elizabeth Thornton. There's something in the way he interacts with her. He can see that she has a rapport with Nathan and yet he feels compelled to step in and win the girl. He knows exactly what will win her over and uses that to his advantage. She wants a library and he helps make that happen because he likes books. It seems to somehow work on her.

His past does come back to haunt him in S6. He confides in Nathan and it almost makes you want to like the guy. Nevertheless the danger makes its way to Hope Valley where Elizabeth is now entangled in it. Good grief can that girl stay out of anyone's business?

And can we talk about his Dangerous Liaison reference in the library?

As a Nathan fan I was quick to jump on this one as I just think DL is nasty. This book is about ex-lovers who use seduction as a way to control others and they enjoy it. The main character tries to seduce his greatest conquest...a married religious woman. Yes there is a spark of hope in the book where he seems to genuinely fall in love and ends his pursuit of her, but for me I just don't understand why this book had to be referenced. Let alone him say it was a favourite. The quote itself is nice but knowing the context of the book just ruins it for me.

I would love to know why the writers chose this for him. Perhaps he did see her as a conquest at first and then later it turned genuine? Perhaps there was no ill intent by the writers and they thought it was a nice quote? Or maybe they wanted people to think he was evil? Maybe they just wanted people talking about it. I dont know but I just personally would have liked something else. If Elizabeth did read this book, which I assume she has, did any red flags surface? For me I would have been a little more aware of what he said or did.

Question: What do you think of Lucas?
